Music

At Innsworth Schools’ Partnership, we believe that music, in its many forms, is a vital part of our cultures and therefore studying music allows us an additional window into learning about the world, it peoples, and its history, as well as being a tool for self-expression and an important subject in its own right.

Singing, in particular group singing, can be instrumental in fostering a sense of belonging and has been shown to improve mental health and this is why we have chosen an approach which puts singing at the heart of our provision.

The children learn about music by listening to, singing and playing music from different cultures and time periods. Through this, they develop their knowledge of the inter-related dimensions of music (pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations). As they move through the schools, children become more adept at discussing music and using their ideas and musical knowledge to compose short pieces and songs.

In addition to the main music curriculum, there are other opportunities for children to engage in music making across the partnership, for example: school productions, concerts, clubs and individual music lessons.
