Art and Design
At Innsworth Schools’ Partnership, we believe that art provides all children with an alternative means of expressing and sharing their ideas, thoughts and feelings. We encourage children to see themselves as artists and to become comfortable with their creativity, in whatever form it may take.
The children take inspiration from a range of artists, both living and historical, from a range of cultures which reflect the diversity of our school community. We aim to develop understanding of fundamental visual concepts in art and design (line, colour, texture, pattern, shape and 3D form) by talking about, and evaluating critically, the work of different artists. We then move to a more practical approach which focuses on drawing skills and experimenting with, and developing control of, a range of media.
Children use sketchbooks from Reception all the way up to Year 6. We encourage the children to think of their sketchbooks as a place where they can record their thoughts, feelings and ideas (both written and visual) as well as where they can experiment with different ideas or media and practice different techniques.
