Computing

At Innsworth Junior School, we believe that computing is an important life skill that will help to set our children up for secondary school but also jobs of the future and enable them to access technology that is developing quickly in order to function in society. Many of our children love accessing technology and this is a way to engage them in their learning across all aspects of the curriculum.

E-safety is taught six times a year. This is vitally important to enable the children to stay safe online. A range of topics are covered but important themes such as staying safe online and cyberbullying are visited regularly throughout their time in school. We use an online environment, Seesaw, to share learning with each other and families at home. This is also a safe space to teach about social media; what is safe and appropriate to share and comment online.

Children access a range of technology through their time in school including iPads, laptops and micro:bits both in computing classes and in a cross-curricular way. This reflects the real-life applications of the technology they come into contact with and helps to make learning accessible.

Children are taught to solve problems they encounter in their work and to help each other to create strategies and solutions. Children are taught to see computers and iPads as a safe place to make mistakes and work to correct them.
