Geography

At Innsworth Junior School, our geography provision allows children to develop an understanding of the world and the people who live here.

Throughout the geography curriculum, the children will learn about where they come from and where they fit into the wider world. They will compare environments with the UK and will have opportunities to discuss similarities and differences. Our curriculum provides opportunities to study the world using a range and variety of maps and atlases as well as pictures and videos. Where possible, we make use of the expertise of the local community when discussing different cultures and countries. Pupils are also taught about the effect of human and physical interventions and how we can help shape the future of the planet.

History

At Innsworth Junior School, our history provision allows children to develop an understanding of how we have developed from early man to now.

History is taught through an enquiry based approach so that the children research topics and link their new knowledge to previous learning before sharing their findings with others. It provides them with the opportunity to study people and events in the past, in particular noticing the changes, making comparisons and reflecting on their effect over time. It is important to us that connections between units and learning is made so that the children can see that history is all linked and not stand alone events that had no effect on anyone.
