Sirs, Ma’ams,
Football for Kenya appeal has been very successful, thanks to all of you who contributed generously. We have been overwhelmed by the quantity of boots, trainers and other football items that the schools have donated within a very short period. To the amazement of our colleagues, our store is full to the ceiling with all these items.
We are now making final collections in preparation to shipping them over to Kenya. I travelled to Nairobi, Kenya on 10 June 2011, together with a team from The Royal Air Force, who run the ‘Taking Football to Africa and Beyond’ Appeal. We distributed some of the boots and trainers. The children were very excited to receive them. Running football clubs is one of the ways that the different charities use to keep the children in the slums positively occupied. It works really well. Most of the children had no footwear at all, even though they took part in tournaments and the local leagues. So the footwear you donated came in really handy.
By allowing us to come and give presentations during assembly and donating generously as you did, you played a big part in making this appeal a reality for the less fortunate children in the slums of Nairobi and other places. Wayne Charley and I are very grateful for all the support from the school administration; not to mention the enthusiasm and interest that the children showed during the presentation.
I have brought back some pictures and videos of the children from Nairobi who were thrilled to receive the boots and trainers. I’m forwarding a few of the pictures (see below) while we sort out the rest. I will forward them as soon as I have collated all of them. Once again, thanks a lot for your generosity.
