Class 3 Eggshell Science - 7th June 2011

Return to Gallery C3

Today we started an investigation into what happens to teeth when left in different drinks. We used eggshells to simulate teeth, because they have a similar external composition. We surveyed which drinks were the most popular five and found out we liked cola the best, followed by pure orange juice, tea, water and milk. We worked out how we could investigate what happens to the eggshells when left in jars of each drink and decided between us how to make the test fair. We did two jars of each drink and one without any drink, just eggshells in air in the jar. Here are some photos of us setting up the investigation:

In milk In water and one left just in air in a jar. In pure orange juice In tea Get that lid on tight! In pure orange juice In water In cola In tea Dropping a shell into the jar of just air. Dropping a shell into pure orange juice. 2 of each drink plus 1 with just air Now we will leave them for a week and see what happens to the eggshells.
